FAQ

  • REFERRALS
You don’t need a referral to come here, but any background information you have about your injury / condition will be helpful.
  • APPOINTMENTS
You need to make an appointment, telephone us on (04) 471 1012 to make one, or go to our website www.wellhand.co.nz for online booking or book online
  • WHAT AREAS DO WE TREAT
Fingers, thumbs, hands, wrists, forearms and elbows.
  • ACC
We have a contract with ACC for hand therapy services. All ACC treatment and splints are fully subsidised for accepted ACC claims.
  • MEDICAL INSURANCE
For private patients, if you have an insurance policy that covers physiotherapy, you can make an insurance claim by submitting receipts of your payments. We are not able to bill medical insurers directly.
  • FEES
Please see our fees page for a list of treatment costs.
We expect payment on the day by cash, EFTPOS or credit card (Visa and Mastercard).
  • DISABILITY ACCESS Our door has a mostly flat entrance from the outside path (a small rubber slope). If the carpark outside our premises is full, you may use the disability park at the south end of the building. Disability toilets are available in the foyer of the building- we need to give you key access for this.
  • FIRST APPOINTMENT
Bring any paperwork about your injury, such as doctors referral, ACC number, etc. We are able to access your x-rays if taken in the Wellington area. When you arrive, you need to fill out 2 forms – one registration/consent form, and one outcome measure form (questionnaire). This takes a few minutes so please come a little early for the appointment. If you have trouble writing, ask us for help. The treatment area is open plan with other patients and therapists in the same room, which is usual in a hand therapy practice. The open plan makes it very easy for us to ask our colleagues for second opinions. However, we can offer treatment in a private room if you wish. If you use our online booking we will send our registration/consent form for you to complete before your appointment.
  • WHAT HAPPENS
We carry out an assessment which involves asking you the background of the problem and problems you are having. We also take measurements and carry out clinical tests to try and arrive at a diagnosis if we don’t have one already. Then we explain our findings to you and develop a treatment plan . This often involves input from you to form program to be done at home as well as in the clinic. We then re-book you for followup appointments as necessary. You can bring the appointment forward if you are worried about anything, also you can ask for a second opinion if you have concerns.
  • FURTHER TESTS
We can refer you on for x-rays or ultrasound scans if required.
  • REFER ON
We liaise closely with hand surgeons and other health professionals, and can refer you on to the appropriate person.
